Interview by Jimon
-David Hinterkörner, one word to describe him? Patient.
-Where do you reside and work currently? I live and work in Vienna, Austria.
-Did you have any training for art or is it inherent? Inherent.
-Do you remember the first piece of art that you created? Yes, my first piece of art is the painting Ego(the avatar.)
-When did you first start making art and what lead you to start? I started in Spring 2015. I was always looking at art in museums and fairs. Some pieces stunned me. I guess I always wanted to paint, but I was not brave enough. After graduating and with my first salary I went to an art shop and spend my money on canvases and oil colors.
-Best advice you ever received in regards to your art? To paint on larger canvases.
-What influences you as an artist? The brain is influences by everything every day and my art is an honest expression of my thoughts. Through my portfolio it is visible what influenced or bothered me most at a certain time.
-Do you first draw a mock-up? Yes, I always make a sketch. Usually very fast, but sometimes I adapt this sketch over months.
-How do you describe success as an artist? I want to create the most beautiful paintings in the world. Masterpieces. To me that is success when people are stunned in front of my paintings.
-Are the colors in your art indicative of your state of mind? Colors, hue, opaqueness, etc. are very important and I always think a lot before choosing colors. I often have a picture in my head and then make a sketch. Then I need some time to choose the structures and the palette of colors I want to use.
-How would you like to be seen as an artist years from now? I don’t know. I focus on my art and try to create a dazzling portfolio. But, hmm, probably I’m searching for appreciation. I see my art as extraordinary and wish that in a few years many people see it the same.
-Do you have a place/person/thing that you visit for inspiration? Vienna. I’m very happy to live in Vienna. I can visit many great galleries, museums and exhibitions. And I use this opportunity. When I stand in front of a painting that touches me I try to find out what it is that make me feel that way and add this thing to my paintings.
-If you could have dinner with 3 artists living/dead who would be at your table? I would like to have dinner with many artists. I’d choose Egon Schiele, Mark Rothko and George Condo.
-Name three things you can’t live without in your studio? Besides the stuff I need to paint I really need sound, because I can’t stand silence very long. I like to have coffee through the day. And I need a tidy workspace – at least at the start of the painting session.
-How would someone find you on social media? @davidhinterkoerner on Instagram and at www.dhin.at
